Root Canal Treatment

This treatment is required when the innermost part of the tooth “the pulp” (which is surrounded by dentine and enamel) becomes injured or diseased. Dental decay, breakdown of a crown or filling, significant wear, trauma and cracks in the teeth can lead to infection of the pulp which can cause pain (not relieved by analgesics) and swelling.

This procedure involves a few visits in order to prevent removal of the tooth. Antibacterial medicaments are placed into the tooth in between visits to aid in the healing process and a temporary filling is used until the treatment is completed.

Once root canal therapy is finished, the dentist may recommend placing a crown over the tooth if needed.

The cost of the treatment varies according to the number of root canals present in a tooth. At Parkwood dental, a treatment plan is provided detailing the cost prior to commencement of treatment.
